About Nepal (Nepal at a Glance)

Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of bio-diversity due to its unique geographical position and altitudinal variation. The elevation of the country ranges from 60m at sea level to the highest point one earth. Mt. Everest 8,848m. All within a distance of 150 km. resulting into climatic conditions from sub-tropical to Arctic.

Geograpphy: The country can be divided in three main geographical regions:

(01): Himalayan region, 15 percent of the total land of the country are covered with snow capped mountains in the northern part and altitude ranges from 4,877 to 8, 848 meters including 8 peaks above the 8000 meters such as Mt. Everest ( 8,848 m), Kanchanjungha ( 8, 586 m), Lhotse (8, 516 m), Makalu ( 8, 463 m), Cho Oyu ( 8,201m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manasulu ( 8,163 m), and Annapurna-1 ( 8091 m).

(02): Mountain region, 68 percent of the total land of the country are covered by the hills and mountains in the central part of Nepal. Altitude varies from 610 to 4,877 meters in this region.

(03): Terai region, In the southern part, the plain area of Terai region covers the 17 percent of the total land of the Country. People: People of Nepal can be divided into two distinct group, the Aryan and the Mongolians. There are many different ethnic groups in Nepal living in different part of the Country with their own unique cultures, languages and religions.

Language: Nepali is the national language. However travel-trade people understand and speak English as well.
Political System: Nepal was declared a Federal Democratic Republic state on May 28, 2008, during the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly. It was previously a multiparty democracy since 1990
Religion: Hindu – 80.62%, Buddhist – 10.74%, Islam – 4.20%, Kirat – 3.60%, Christian – 0.4%, Sikha – 0.03%, Jain – 0.02, Other – 0.37%
Literacy Rate: a) Male: 65.08%
b) Female: 42.49%
Total: 52.74%

Nepal has four major season, namely,

1) Winter: December-February,
2) Spring: March-may,
3) Summer: June-August,
4) Autumn-September-November.

People: Nepal has more than 40 ethnic groups and 70 spoken languages.

Entyr Procedurs: A visa is required to enter Nepal except for India nationals. One can get a visa at the Royal Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
What to Wear: Light, weight clothing is recommended for May through October, Warm garments are required in October-March. An umbrella or a raincoat is a must for the rainy season June/July.
